Tarmac; Terminal Marks of Life

Tarmac; Terminal Marks of Life

Description

Airports are spaces of transition—thresholds between destinations, memories, and selves. This exhibition brings attention to the often-overlooked runway, where the marks left by airplane wheels serve as powerful metaphors for the imprints life leaves on us. Each scuff, streak, and shadow on the tarmac tells a story of arrivals and departures, of moments suspended between anticipation and memory.

Rather than simply documenting these marks, this work invites the viewer to consider how our own experiences leave their traces—visible and invisible—on our skin and in our minds. The tarmac becomes a canvas of vulnerability and resilience, bearing witness to the passage of time and the journeys we all undertake. Ultimately, these terminal marks remind us that every encounter, every journey, shapes who we are and the stories we carry.

The exhibition explores the interplay between movement and pause, highlighting how every landing and takeoff is both an ending and a beginning. In the fleeting moments when wheels touch ground, there is a convergence of past and future—a brief, tangible record of transition. Viewers are encouraged to reflect on their own thresholds and turning points, considering the ways in which personal histories, relationships, and ambitions leave their own marks, sometimes faint and sometimes indelible.

By focusing on the runway, a space normally passed over in haste, the exhibition asks us to slow down and witness the poetry in the ordinary. The tarmac, with its accumulation of marks, becomes a living archive of journeys taken, dreams pursued, and the inevitability of change. It is a reminder that even in the most utilitarian places, there is evidence of hope, loss, longing, and transformation.
